Japanese Inspired Mishima

Japanese Inspired Mishima

$70.00

Mishima is the process of removing clay by carving away clay and then filling that space with a material that you clean away the excess of to create crisp, inlaid lines. I have inlaid glaze in the Mishima process for my work but I was curious about using a contrasting clay color instead of a glaze. These pieces are inlaid with clay to create the white contrast against the dark clay. I wanted to see the difference and to have these pieces call back to an Asian heritage. Mishima originated in Korea but was popularized by Japanese potters. The floral designs and the pink hues area call back to the famous Japanese cherry blossoms.
