This collection was inspired by a potter that I met in New Zealand. When I travel I love finding potters to meet. I saw this potter’s work in a gallery and realized he lived in the town I was staying in. He was kind enough to let me visit his studio at the last minute and chat about his work. What I loved most about our chat was his take on changing up his style of work any time he wanted and not going back to well selling designs because he was done with that style. I was enthralled. But the piece that I loved at the gallery was a monoprint and when I asked him about the glazing process he brushed it off and said oh just google it there’s a million youtube videos on how to do it. I loved his willingness to share his process in such a laid back manner. This broad experiment of printing on clay has already made it into my work and will continue to be something I explore further.
