Straffigo is any art process where you scratch through a layer to a contrasting color beneath. These pieces I painted with a white or black underglaze and then carved to reveal the contrasting clay color beneath. There are very specific tools talented artists use for Straffigo that I am tempted to purchase so I can explore this process with more precision in the future. Being my scrappy self I experimented with tools I had in the studio, they worked but were not as precise as I was hoping for. I am curious about continuing to explore Straffigo but I am super happy with how this first round of work turned out.
