A YA novel set in an African(esc) landscape. In this world magic used to present in the Magi and all potential Magi are born with white hair. Magic lost its power and a new king has turned Magi into the lowest of classes. They are shunned and ostracized. One young, fierce magi finds herself in the capital city trying desperately to sell fish to pay her families high tax to the King. She runs into a young woman in desperate need of help and takes a chance on her to find out that she is the King’s daughter. Together they must learn to respect their differences and perhaps bring back magical powers to all the Magi. I’d pair this fantastical story with a mono print flower mug topped off with rooibos tea.
