This book came to me through my end of year give away where folks enter by letting me know what their favorite book of the year was. Several recommendations came in for Lula Dean and it was available as an audiobook from my library! I laughed out loud, got a pissed off and had tears forming in my eyes. It was such a fun and heart warming book with some definitely hard edges. The basic ghist is that Lula decides to take a stance on books in her small Georgia town and pulls a bunch of books from the school and library. A young woman in town from college takes things into her own hands and swaps out all of Lula’s antiquated books with the banned books in her lending library but disguises them in the book jackets from the old books. The banned books bring forward all the secretes deep within in the community. Read this book with a Read Banned Books Book Mug (duh!) and fill it up with a tasty root beer float.
