Wow! I LOVED this book. I listened to it and was stoked to find out that the author narrates which just adds a lovely flair. Cooke is a zoologist who was struggling with just how terribly the female of every species is portrayed in science so she started digging into research that was going counter to the assumptions that females are the weaker sex of all species. She found a width breadth of research out there consistently proving that this is NOT the case. Surprise surprise. The male confirmation bias in science is far and wide and has it’s roots in Darwin’s Survival of the Fittest theories. Cooke brings to light many species where the female fierce, sexually dominate and is pushing the evolution of her species forward. She also delves deep into just how queer the animal kingdom is and how important that is for evolving into a stronger species.
