Sanderson is one of the classic high fantasy authors. Elantris is a rare stand alone novel. Set in a world where the elite and ruling class are randomly selected from any walk of life when the Shaod comes upon you. But a sickness has befallen anyone with powers and there is a new ruling class that has shut the sick into their old kingdom. A young princess arrives to marry the sun of the new merchant king to find her betrothed has died. As she figures out what her role in this new land is she begins to uncover secrets about her new home. This book was written in 2005 so I have to give props to Sanderson for the strong female lead role. I’d pair this book with a magical mono print flower mug full of tea.
