READ THIS BOOK! Wow just wow. This is my first Shafak book and I cannot wait to read more of her books. It was heart wrenching but so beautiful and I learned so much about Cypress. The book is set in Cypress and is a spin on the classic Romeo and Juliet story as a Turk and Greek fall in love. The two cultures are pitted in a civil war that rips through the small island. You’re moved from the past to the present and back again with a narrative voice from a fig tree thrown in. I loved this book so much. I’d pair it with an ocean mug full of a bright sparkling water.
