I’ll be honest I picked this up because of the Sarah J Maas quote on the front and am happy I did. The story is set in a string of Islands that are ruled by an Emperor whose power is waning. He controls the empire with bone shard magic through his constructs. (I’ll let you read the book to learn what a construct is.) An uprising is happening across the nation and magic abounds and is growing in power. The book definitely sets you up for the series go in warned that the books ends with many cliff hangers. I would pair this book with an americano in a Desert Mesa Bloom mug.
