I found this book in a small bookstore in New Zealand where everyone drinks Flat Whites so to give it justice make sure to top your vessel off with one to get into the setting. And I’m recommending the Floral Fuck mug because I found the root of this book to be about women’s rights and that just leaves me saying Fuck. The book is set in Footscray, Australia and follows 5 story lines from the 1900s to 200 years in the future. The writing style shifts in each storyline and the book can feel a little disjointed. I read many reviews afterwards and I can see why folks didn’t enjoy it. You don’t get as much information in each storyline as you’d like and you are left wondering about some of the connection points between a few of the storylines but I personally enjoy this kind of writing. It leaves me thinking about the book and asking questions. I know I didn’t give much on what the actual storyline is about but I’m going to leave it at this and let you discover the rest.
